Don’t Follow The Follower by Earl Nightingale

Posted by Keith Aul on January 30, 2009

Processionary caterpillars travel in long, undulating lines, one creature behind the other. Jean Hanri Fabre, the French entomologist, once lead a group of these caterpillars onto the rim of a large flowerpot so that the leader of the procession found himself nose to tail with the last caterpillar in the procession, forming a circle without end or beginning.

Through sheer force of habit and, of course, instinct, the ring of caterpillars circled the flowerpot for seven days and seven nights, until they died from exhaustion and starvation. An ample supply of food was close at hand and plainly visible, but it was outside the range of the circle, so the caterpillars continued along the beaten path.

People often behave in a similar way. Habit patterns and ways of thinking become deeply established, and it seems easier and more comforting to follow them than to cope with change, even when that change may represent freedom, achievement, and success.

If someone shouts, “Fire!” it is automatic to blindly follow the crowd, and many thousands have needlessly died because of it. How many stop to ask themselves: Is this really the best way out of here?

So many people “miss the boat” because it’s easier and more comforting to follow – to follow without questioning the qualifications of the people just ahead – than to do some independent thinking and checking.

A hard thing for most people to fully understand is that people in such numbers can be so wrong, like the caterpillars going around and around the edge of the flowerpot, with life and food just a short distance away. If most people are living that way, it must be right, they think. But a little checking will reveal that throughout all recorded history the majority of mankind has an unbroken record of being wrong about most things, especially important things. For a time we thought the earth was flat and later we thought the sun, stars, and planets traveled around the Earth. Both ideas are now considered ridiculous, but at the time they were believed and defended by the vast majority of followers. In the hindsight of history we must have looked like those caterpillars blindly following the follower out of habit rather than stepping out of line to look for the truth.

It’s difficult for people to come to the understanding that only a small minority of people ever really get the word about life, about living abundantly and successfully. Success in the important departments of life seldom comes naturally, no more naturally than success at anything – a musical instrument, sports, fly-fishing, tennis, golf, business, marriage, parenthood.

But for some reason most people wait passively for success to come to them – like the caterpillars going around in circles, waiting for sustenance, following nose to tail – living as other people are living in the unspoken, tacit assumption that other people know how to live successfully.

It’s a good idea to step out of the line every once in a while and look around to see if the line is going where we want it to go. If it is not, it might be time for a new leader and a new direction.

For those who have tried repeatedly to break a habit of some kind, only to repeatedly fail, Mary Pickford said, “Falling is not failing, unless you fail to get up.” Most people who finally win the battle over a habit they have wanted to change have done so only after repeated failures. And it’s the same with most things.

The breaking of a long-time habit does seem like the end of the road at the time – the complete cessation of enjoyment. Suddenly dropping the habit so fills our minds with the desire for the old habitual way that, for a while, it seems there will no longer be any peace, any sort of enjoyment. But that’s not true. New habits form in a surprisingly short time, and a whole new world opens up to us.

So, if you’ve been trying to start in a new direction, you might do well to remember the advice of Mary Pickford: breaking an old habit isn’t the end of the road; it’s just a bend in the road. And falling isn’t failing, unless you don’t get up.

Can Obama deliver? unbelievable poll shows…

Posted by Keith Aul on January 20, 2009

Last week, I came across an interesting USA TODAY/ Gallup Poll. It seems that there  are stratospheric expectations for Obama.

A majority of those surveyed say Obama will be able to achieve every one of 10 major campaign promises. Every Single One.

I don’t want to dampen hopes, and I’m not quoting this to make any predictions, but reading this poll just made me think to myself…

How come it’s easier for people to believe in someone they haven’t met to make change in their lives, and yet… they find it so hard to believe in themselves?

Isn’t it time you believed in YOURSELF to make the change you want to see?

The poll also shows that 7 in 10 predict the nation will be better off when Obama’s term ends
in four years.

If you could get the Law of Attraction to work for you 7 out of 10 times (or more!) where would your
life be right now?

The Law of Attraction is NOT the only law.

Posted by Keith Aul on January 4, 2009

Do you recall the first feeling of hope you felt when you were first introduced to the movie The Secret? I can clearly remember realizing a new desire, knowing that – Yes, I can make my dreams come true – FINALLY! However, how many of us soon saw that hope fade into frustration? How many of us, and be honest, started muttering things like:

- “It seems to work for other people, but I just can’t get it right.”

- “I’m frustrated that sometimes I can get it to work, but sometimes I can’t. What’s the trick?”

- “Why am I having so much trouble?”

- “I think the universe is against me.”

- “I’m trying very, VERY hard but still nothing is happening!”

Well, don’t feel bad because, you’re not alone. About 97% of people also couldn’t make the Law of Attraction work for them the first time round. Think about it, just like anything else, you have to practice many times before you see success. A child doesn’t learn to walk without falling over a couple of times, right?

But in practice, everything is easier said and done. When you’re frustrated, it’s hard to stay positive. And it’s especially harder to stay positive when the evidence all around you is screaming negativity like the unstable economy or senseless acts of violence.

Have you noticed what happens when you fail to stay positive? That’s right – you start attracting negative things in to your life.

So how can you make the Law of Attraction work for you – without getting frustrated? How do those who successfully implement the Law of Attraction do it with such confidence and assurance?

Well, here’s three quick tips so you will never feel frustrated or tired of begging from the universe, because you know how to start manifesting like a pro.

1. Allow Yourself To Receive

Just like a lost child who approaches a police officer and asks, “Excuse me Sir, can you tell me how to go to the post office? Can you? Can you? Can you? Can you? Can you?” Well, if the child goes on and on asking, the police officer can’t even give an answer, right?

Well, it’s the same thing with your mind. If the only thing your mind is doing is transmit, transmit, transmit, the universe — which is trying to respond — can’t give you a single thing because you’re not allowing yourself to receive!

So, have the confidence in yourself and stop exhausting yourself by running around person to person begging for riches, and then wondering why nobody is dropping a penny in your cup (Hint: It’s because you’re running away too fast from them before they can even reach for their wallets).

Just think of your desires and leave it out there, go away, and trust that your cup will be filled with gold coins (or whatever it is you asked for) when the time is right.

2. Be Patient With Yourself

Receiving takes time.

Sadly, many people give up just ‘three feet from gold’ before the finish line because they’ve decided that if it’s not working by now, it’s never going to work at all. Worse still, are those who throw in more and more energy because they think that with more resources, the results will come faster.

This is like expecting 9 mothers to conceive and deliver a baby in 1 month. You also can’t bake cookies in half the time by doubling the temperature. You’ll incinerate those cookies to ashes!

In simple terms: Everything in this world has a natural development time (i.e.-The Law of Gender), and this fact will not change no matter what resources you throw at it.

So relax and be patient. Remember that you too, as part of the universe, are also governed by the laws of the universe, and you cannot change the natural development time.

If you remember this, you will less likely work yourself up into frustration, or worse, push yourself into a downward spiral of negativity.

3. Support and Educate Yourself

Like the child who is learning how to walk, you need support. You also need to guidance on how to do it, and also the role models to look up to.

Many people give up because they think that “The Secret” is the “be all and end all” solution. Well, it’s NOT. “The Secret” is just a small portion. It was never intended, and has never been, the whole answer.

Coming to the conclusion that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work when all you ever did to educate yourself was watch “The Secret” 19 times (without looking at changing the habits of other areas of your life) is like coming to the conclusion that exercising is not an effective way to lose weight because all you did is run on the treadmill for 2 hours a day and you’re still stuffing yourself with fried foods and cheesecakes.

So seek and be hungry for new knowledge. Also, make an effort to be amongst people or communities where you can support each other, learn from each other and also share new knowledge that you have found.

While the Law of Attraction is not an overnight delivery service, it will indeed deliver, if you do your part too!

What you Stare at You Become

Posted by Keith Aul on January 2, 2009

This is the parable of Paul the Accountant and the parable of Joe the Meat Man.

Little Paul was only 12. Just 7 years ago he was just knee high to a grasshopper and now he was almost grown up. His parents said stare at books and get a good college education and he asked “how come?”

They replied “so you can be a bean counter like your father”. By the eleventh grade his guidance counselor asked ‘so what is it you’re going to be and what college and why’. And Paul answered ‘any college will do that can teach me to be an accountant because I want to be the guy to count other peoples money.’ After he got his degree in accounting everyone asked Paul ‘who are you?’ and big Paul, now age 22, said ‘I’m an accountant’. Paul was totally convinced, even his subconscious mind was sold.

By age 35, Brother Paul was asked multiple times and each time he hit the streets to look for more beans to count and each time people cried ‘what do you do?’ He shouted ‘I told you already. I’m an accountant and nothing more.’

Now here’s what happened next. Now the economy tanked and guess what. No one wanted an accountant and those who did were only paying now by the hour because of cut backs. And now all Paul could do was earn what he was earning back when he was fresh out of college. Yikes!!!!

So he sat at home, near broke and used his past to justify his future. He complained at anyone at the local bar who would listen and he also handed his ‘I’m an accountant’ speech to everyone.

One day someone walked up to Paul and showed him a manual and said ‘You looked like the kind of fellow who always had their eye out for a good second income, true?’ He said ‘I’m certainly not. I already have a career. I’m an accountant, a broke one though.’

What you stare at you become!!!!

The parable of Joe the meat man

Joe has a free spirit. His parents never had the nerve to talk him into going to college because by age 14 all he could obsess about was magic. By age 24 he’s been around the world doing magic and some of his magic buddies became rich and famous. Joe got bored with traveling and decided to get a job. In the real world no one was hiring guys who did magic. So Joe answered an add in the newspaper that was hiring door to door men. They gave Joe a meat truck and his name became known all over New Jersey as ‘Joe the Meat Man’.

He was inspired by his great magic buddies who’ve attracted great fame and money and decided to listen to Tony Robbins audio tapes in his truck, non stop for 8 hours per day for years. Now here’s the weird part. What happened was that Joe without even knowing it was actually teaching his subconscious the memory and imagination of prosperity.

Almost like learning a new language. Next, he knocked on some doors to sell more steaks and people said ‘we earn $25,000 per month in network marketing. Do you want to take a look? Joe replied ‘I’ve been using my mind and studying money and increase for years, of course.’ So the rich guy said ‘You see, you were supposed to meet me’.

The meat man said ‘I guess what you stare at long enough begins to stare back at you’.

Then the rich guy says ‘That’s right. Here sign this MLM application’. So, years later Joe got over 10,000 people who stared at money to sign the MLM application and the little meat boy became the number one distributor with 75,000 people in the company.

What you stare at you become!!!

So, here’s the lesson:

  1. Paul could only allow himself to be an accountant. So therefore when the economy tanked he had no other means to receive an income. Joe on the other hand, had a self-image that was not confined to work or even assigned a label. All Joe could think of was being a free American and living with more money than he needed.
  2. Jobs are only for people who never took the time to learn how to make their own work. If you want to change your income, then change how you receive it. Joe decided to serve 10,000 people and 10,000 people gave Joe money in return for his leverage. Paul on the other hand, only asked one person, a boss. Do you see the difference?
  3. If you change how you look at money, money itself will rearrange itself and change how it looks at you. For instance, most people work for money and become a salve to having never enough. What if you made money work for you and use money to circulate ads to attract other people who stare at money and you use their energy as our money.
  4. If you think you are whatever you learned at college back when you were a kid and only 21 and years later when society moves and all jobs get screwed up, what will you do if what they taught you in school is no longer relevant or even needed? You can decide to make a career out of being you and making income in a free society and make it in all sorts of ways. Or you can remain a hostage in the banking system and remain at the dinner table of Visa and MasterCard. God knows they love to eat you alive. You can choose the open market or you can follow the company and dress in some corporate fitting costume and remain in a game called we will only pay you enough so you never quit and only be on a job with a title.

What you Stare at you Become!!!

So as 2008 closes down and you prepare for 2009 what will you stare at and what will you become. In 2009 will you choose prosperity or struggle? Will you choose lack or abundance? Will you choose that attitude that ‘you deserve better and your family deserves better?’ The defining moments and changes that happen in your life will come from changes in your mind, changes in your thinking and changes in your self-image and not from a change in the government.

Unless you are mentally prepared for success you will not receive it. Unless you are the person who can attract the crowd, you won’t build a following. All the answers that you are searching for are found within yourself. You just need to learn how to unleash them.
